Kids' Bird Watching

Kids' Bird Watching

Step into the world of birds and coastal ecosystems with Kids' Bird Watching, a hands-on shoreline exploration program designed to introduce young learners to bird identification and observation skills. Led by Maria Mitchell Association Natural Science Museum staff, participants will learn how to observe, listen for, and identify local bird species using sight and sound while exploring Nantucket’s coastal habitats.

Children will be introduced to the basics of birding through binoculars, field guides, and mini field notebooks to record their sightings. Along the way, participants will discover how different bird species are connected to island ecosystems and shoreline environments, building curiosity, observation skills, and a deeper understanding of the natural world.

This program is designed for children ages 7 and older. Adults are welcome to accompany their child at no additional cost, and chaperones are encouraged. Participants should be prepared for a short 0.5-mile walk each way along coastal terrain and should wear appropriate closed-toe footwear and clothing for outdoor conditions. Please wear sunscreen and bring a water bottle.

This program meets at the MMA Aquarium at 32 Washington Street, Nantucket, MA. Pickup is prompt at program end time. Pre-registration is required and program closes at 3PM the day before.

Cost: $25 per child, adult chaperones free
