Faraway Chocolate is a bean to bar craft chocolate maker located at 16 Old South Wharf in downtown Nantucket. Every bar, bonbon, and confection is handcrafted in small batches on the island, starting from raw cacao beans sourced directly from small farms and cooperatives in Venezuela, the Caribbean, and other origin regions known for exceptional flavor.
Founder and Executive Chef Andre Marrero brings two decades of fine dining experience to the craft. Before opening Faraway, Andre trained at the French Culinary Institute and worked in Michelin-starred kitchens under Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Thomas Keller, and Joël Robuchon in New York City. He is also the great-great-grandson of H.O. Wilbur, who founded the Wilbur Chocolate Company in 1865 and invented the Wilbur Bud, the original American chocolate kiss that preceded the Hershey Kiss by nearly a decade. Andre and his wife Erica run the business together, as a fifth generation continuation of an iconic American chocolate-making family.
The name Faraway comes from the Wampanoag word for Nantucket, meaning "faraway land," a nod to both the island's heritage and the distant origins of the cacao itself.
Visit the shop to taste single origin bars, seasonal confections, and signature gift collections including the Harbor Collection and Grand Reserve, both designed for clients, hosts, and corporate gifting at the highest level. Custom corporate orders and private classes and tastings are available by request.
